Description: The story of Emiliana and Pierogi is a romance that grew from sorrow. Pierogi was happily married until a tragic health issue took his beloved wife’s life. As all the people and birds of GLPR supported Pierogi in his grief, Emiliana came forward to comfort him and gradually their companionship grew into a wise and mature love. Pierogi and Emiliana are survivors of pigeon racing, and have both known hardships and the fear of being lost and abandoned before they were rescued. They now love and comfort each other with great devotion, and they also love being part of a human family as well. @artbyrisamarie donated this beautiful artwork to honor their love story.
Description: Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue’s mission is to save the lives of homeless domestic and non-releasable pigeons and doves in the Great Lakes region, who otherwise would face euthanasia or a slow death from lack of care, by providing foster homes, adoption services, medical treatment, and compassionate education about the need for pigeon and dove rescue. The courageous pigeon portrayed in this design is emblematic of the hundreds of birds rescued by GLPR who inspire us with their bravery and gratitude every day.

Description: "I'm with the skater boy, I said, 'See you later, boy', I'll be back stage after the show, I'll be at a studio, Singing the song we wrote, About a pigeon who's very brave..." OK, maybe our volunteer dated herself when she named this pigeon SkaterBoi after the song, but this handsome bird really is a spunky guy with a true rags to riches story! SkaterBoi is a pigeon racing survivor who was so weak and emaciated he wasn't able to avoid being hit by a car in downtown Chicago on Lake Shore Drive. Fortunately he was spotted by a young man on a skateboard who scooped up this frail pigeon, called for an uber, and rushed SkaterBoi to the care of our rescue! SkaterBoi is now a strong, sassy pigeon who adores his adoptive mom.

Description: Two special needs pigeons drawn by @cricket_the_pigeon ! Mikey had puncture wounds and a severe intestinal parasite that blocked his intestines. He unfortunately was affected by neurological trauma, but healed from his other wounds. Rodo - his wife - was also attacked and lost an eye in the process.
